Meat Sauce
Meat sauce is very versatile. It can be used to layer lasagna, prepare with penne, rigatoni, spaghetti, or any pasta that can hold on to the sauce.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 can tomato paste (about 3 ounces)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- pinch red pepper flakes
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 3 ounces tomato paste (optional)
METHOD
- Cook onions until soft and translucent with half teaspoon of salt
- Add minced garlic and tomato paste (if using)
- Deglaze with 2 ounces of red wine (optional)
- Add beef and continue to cook until browned
- Add in tomato sauce and cook for 1-2 hours (if using for lasagna, remember it is going to cook for another hour, so just 1 hour initial cooking time is fine.
