1758  Alexandre Balthazar Laurent Grimod de La Reynière born. He was a French writer and gastronome who was notorious for his sharp wit and dark humor, and one of the first food and restaurant critics.

1962  The Hardee’s restaurant chain registers its trademark.

1967  The population of the USA  surpassed 200 million.

1969  The DDT banned for residential use as part of a total phase out of its use in the United States.

1984  McDonald’s sells its 50 billionth hamburger.
