1852  Founder of Kellogg’s Breakfast Cereal born, John Harvey Kellogg.

1916  Entertainer Jackie Gleason born in Brooklyn, New York. Gleason who was friends with Frank Sinatra, took Sinatra to Toot’s Shor in Manhattan and had introduced him to Jack Daniel’s Whiskey. The whiskey and Sinatra’s love for it, launches it as a legend like himself.

1945  A wartime midnight curfew on nightclubs, bars and other places of entertainment goes into effect in the USA.

2008  The Global Seed Vault (‘doomsday seed vault’) opened deep within an Arctic mountain in the remote Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. It has the capacity to store 4.5 million seed samples from around the world and shield them from man-made and natural disasters.

2008  All 7,100 Starbucks Coffee Shops in the USA closed for 3 hours for employee sensitivity training.
