1909  James Taylor dies.  Businessman and politician who served in the New Jersey Senate but best known for his breakfast staple in all diners, Taylor Ham, later called pork roll by those who wished to imitate it.

1944  Frances Moore Lappe was born, author of best selling books on food and those considering becoming vegetarians.

1945  The Andrew’s Sisters song ‘Rum & Coca Cola’ hist #1 on the music charts.

1957  Styrofoam cooler invented.

1990  Perrier recalls 160 million bottles of its mineral water in the United States after tests show the presence of the benzene in a small sample of bottles.
