De Martino Cuban Restaurant

De Martino

9 Davenport Street Somerville NJ 08876

Voted one of the Top 30 newest restaurants in New Jersey to dine, De Martino is affordable and well worth the visit.  Even if you come for lunch, the Ropa Vieja is the most authentic I’ve ever had. My wife, who is Venezuelan got very nostalgic and said it reminded her of her mother’s.  Ropa Vieja is Cuba’s national dish and is braised flank steak, simmered in tomato sauce and sofrito and served over white rice and sweet plantains.

For me the DM Burger was one of the best hamburger I ever had.  It has a special blend of chuck, short rib, brisket, and dressed with bacon guava jam, gouda and plantain crisp on a Brioche bun. On the side is a mixed green salad.

If you bring your own wine, you can make a meal of tapas from all of their incredible appetizers such as Yucca Fries (fried yucca served with avocado aioli and beet ketchup); Croquettes (filled with ham, sofrito and fried golden brown); and Empanadas filled with beef, or potato and cheese. There so many others I hope to return and taste.
