1792 John Montague, Earl of Sandwich dies. Captain Cook named the Sandwich Islands after him (now known as Hawaii). He is said to have invented the sandwich as a quick meal so as not to interrupt his gambling sessions.
1939 The New York World’s Fair opens with the theme ‘Dawn of a New Day’ and ‘the World of Tomorrow.’
1981 Dunkin Donuts opens its first store in the Philippines.
